Caring For Your Outdoor Sunbrella Fabric
Sunbrella outdoor fabrics are designed and engineered to survive the toughest weather conditions and should stay looking new for years to come when properly cared for.
Sunbrella fabrics are treated with fluorocarbon finish during its finishing process in order to further enhance its ability to repel water. The finish should last for several years but it must be replenished after extensive cleaning. We recommend using a 303 Fabric Guard for the re-treatment and replenishment of the fluorocarbon finish of your Sunbrella fabric, which restores repellency to factory new levels.
Start by brushing any dirt from the umbrella
Mix ¼ cup of mild soap such as Dawm for each gallon of water (lukewarm)
Using a soft bristle brush or a sponge brush the umbrella with the prepared solution and allow it to soak into the fabric for a few minutes
Rinse and remove all soap residues
Allow the fabric to air dry
Note: Prior to maintaining or cleaning, it is important to clean the entire surface of the fabric to avoid water rings.
Using a spray bottle apply a light mist of soap and water on the stain
Gently scrub the area with a sponge or a soft bristle brush
In case of an oil stain, apply an absorbing substance such as corn starch for approximately 10 minutes to remove the oil from the fabric.
Rinse to remove all the soap remaining
Remove extra moisture with a sponge or a towel
Blot or wet vacuum excess water
Air dry and repeat the steps until all soap is removed
Note: Please refer to the Stain Removal Chart by Sunbrella to know how to clean different types of stain.
Cleaning Mold and Mildew
Prepare cleaning solution: 1 cup of bleach and ¼ cup of mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water
Using a spray bottle, spray the targeted area entirely and allow it to soak for 15 minutes
Blot set in stains with a clean towel, a sponge or a very soft bristle brush
Rinse to remove all residues of the cleaning solution
Allow to air dry
If your Sunbrella cushion casing is removable, you can machine wash it in cold water or delicate cycle with normal amounts of laundry detergent (soft to mild). Add 1 cup of bleach for severe stains, mildew or mold and always allow the fabric to air dry.
Note: You may want to increase the bleach quantities for more severe mold or mildew.
